Florida Democratic Party Approves 2016 Delegate Selection and Affirmative Action Plan
The Florida Democratic Party announces today the approval of the Florida Delegate Selection and Affirmative Action Plan that lays out the process for selecting Delegates to the 2016 Democratic National Convention, to be held the week of July 25, 2016. The plan has been submitted for review and final approval by the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee.
Approved at the State Executive Committee meeting held during the Leadership Blue weekend, the plan can be viewed in its entirety at www.FlaDems.com/2016DelegatePlan.
Florida Democratic Party Chair Allison Tant said, “I would like to thank Florida Democratic Party Rules Committee Co-Chair Rick Boylan, as well as the members of the Rules Committee and the Affirmative Action Committee, for their hard work in crafting the Florida Democratic Party’s Delegate Selection and Affirmative Action Plan, and I commend the members of the State Executive Committee for passing the plan.”
“This plan will ensure Florida Democrats have a strong voice in the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Florida Democrats are fired up to nominate the next President of the United States in Philadelphia next year, and this plan ensures our delegation will reflect the tremendous diversity of our state and our party,” Tant added.
The selection process for delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Philladelphia, PA will work as follows:
1. The results of Florida's March 15, 2016 presidential primary election will be used to apportion delegates to the national convention.
2. On May 7, 2016, grassroots Democrats from each of Florida’s 27 congressional districts will meet in congressional district caucuses to elect 135 district-level delegates to the Democratic National Convention.
3. Following the congressional district caucuses, in conjunction with the Florida Democratic Party’s Leadership Blue weekend, the district-level delegates will meet to select 27 Pledged Party Leader and Elected Official (PLEO) Delegates, 45 At-Large Delegates, and 17 At-Large Alternates to the Democratic National Convention.
By ensuring all Democrats have a voice in the national convention, this Delegate Selection and Affirmative Action Plan will ensure that the Florida Democratic Party delegation will truly represent the tremendous diversity of Florida and the Democratic Party.
