24th District Republicans Nominate Tallahassee Insider, Property Tax Raiser Sandy Adams
Florida Democratic Party spokesman Eric Jotkoff issued the following statement after Tallahassee insider Sandy Adams secured the Republican nomination in the 24th Congressional district:
“As a Tallahassee politician, Sandy Adams voted for a $545 million property tax increase, pushed for oil drilling near Florida's beaches, and voted to fund a $48 million courthouse dubbed the ‘Taj Mahal of Tallahassee.’  Sandy Adams’ priorities don’t come close to reflecting the interests of Central Floridians.  She has been a lockstep supporter of her corrupt Republican Party of Florida friends in Tallahassee and in Washington she would only support a far right-wing agenda. As voters learn more about her record, they’ll quickly see that Sandy Adams has the wrong priorities and will only be a partisan rubber stamp, not an independent voice for Central Florida.”

BACKGROUND: In Tallahassee, Adams voted for a $545 million property tax increase.  [Florida House, SB 2800, 5-7-07; Associated Press State & Local Wire, May 3, 2007] Adams voted to allow drilling between 3 And 5 miles from the Florida coast.  In 2009, Adams voted for legislation that would have authorized the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund to accept bids for oil and gas leases on specified submerged lands, some of which were between 3 and 5 miles from the Florida coast. [FL House 2009 HB1219, Vote 4/27/2009] Adams voted to fund a $48 million lavish, taxpayer funded Tallahassee courthouse that has been labeled the “Taj Mahal.” “Scheduled to be completed in November, it's a $48 million behemoth in which each judge will get a 60-inch LCD flat screen television in chambers (trimmed in mahogany), a private bathroom (featuring granite countertops) and a kitchen (complete with microwave and refrigerator).” [CS/HB 985, Vote 502 on 5/4/07; St. Petersburg Times, 8/9/10]
