3 Questions Rubio Must Answer About the #SitInForThe49
One month after the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Floridians are demanding answers from their constituent-adverse Senator, Marco Rubio. Yesterday, Orlando residents conducted a sit-in yesterday at Rubio’s office to honor the victims of the Pulse shooting and call for the Senator to support commonsense gun safety measures backed by more than 8 in 10 Floridians. Unsurprisingly, Rubio ignored his constituents, hid behind his staff, and refused to address the protesters in person, on the phone, or over social media.
Here are 3 questions Floridians deserve to hear Marco Rubio answer:
1. Why does Rubio continue to stick to the NRA’s script when more than 80% of his constituents — including Republicans — favor commonsense gun safety measures like universal background checks and closing the terror loophole?
2. Why has Rubio refused to work on, or fight for, compromise legislation to address gun violence?
3. If Rubio is going to use the Pulse shooting as the justification for changing his mind on running for reelection, why does he refuse to address gun violence with his Orlando constituents?
“No Show Marco’s refusal to discuss commonsense guns safety measures with his Orlando constituents demonstrates the fact that he continues to put the NRA ahead of the people of Florida,” said FDP spokesman Max Steele. “Floridians are demanding action to combat gun violence and their Senator cannot even be bothered to listen. Yet again, Rubio has proven that he will never miss an opportunity to put his career ambitions ahead of doing what’s right for Florida’s families.”
