Saint Petersblog - Democrats raise record amount at Jefferson-Jackson Dinner
The Florida Democratic Party wrapped up a series of meetings Sunday connected to the party’s annual Jefferson-Jackson fundraising dinners. A party spokesman said about 1,200 people attended the get-together, which pulled in $700,000 for the state’s minority party, rpeorts the News Service of Florida. The amount marks a record for a non-election year. Speakers at the event included Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson and Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. The extra funding could come in handy for what the parties’ speakers listed as their major goals: Re-electing Nelson and securing Florida’s trove of electoral votes for President Barack Obama.
