When the 'Big One' Hits Florida, Rick Scott's Inexperienced Body Man Will Head Florida's Emergency Management

When the ‘Big One’ Hits Florida, Rick Scott’s Inexperienced Body Man Will Head Florida‘s Emergency Management
Florida will look to Wes Maul, recent body man for Rick Scott, to lead the state’s emergency management operations during its next crisis

Tallahassee, FL – Governor Rick Scott has replaced veteran Emergency Management Chief Bryan Koon with his body man from 2014, Wes Maul.

If the ‘Big One‘ hits Florida, the state will look to Mr. Maul as its Emergency Management Director.

Mr. Maul graduated law school in 2013 and then served as a travel aid and body man, to the governor in 2014. Mr. Maul would go on to become a ‘special assistant’ to the governor coordinating travel and other logistics.

In 2016, Mr. Maul was elevated to serve as chief of staff (big promotion) to Bryan Koon. Almost one year later, Mr. Maul will now head the entire Emergency Management operation.

“It’s not a question of if the next extreme weather event will threaten Florida, it’s a question of when. We need an experienced leader at the helm of our emergency management operations, and no one would disagree that Wes Maul is totally inexperienced and unprepared for such an important role. Rick Scott has a clear record of propping up unqualified political appointees, but this is unacceptable. Millions of Floridians are depending on the Emergency Management Director to oversee critical operations that keep our state safe. The Governor needs to appoint a qualified and experienced director immediately.” said Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Johanna Cervone.
