Chairman Smith Calls For Sweeping Ethics Reforms To Give Prosecutors Legal Tools To Crack Down On Corruption
Florida Democratic Party Chairman Rod Smith, who previouslyserved as the State Attorney for the Eighth Judicial Circuit, released the follow statement in light of the developments in the case against disgraced Speaker Ray Sansom:
“The corruption trial against Ray Sansom simply highlights why Florida needs sweeping ethics reforms to crack down on corruption.
“While the facts of the case clearly showed the actions of Sansom and others were wrong and unethical, perhaps the most serious thing the Sansom case showed is that Florida’s prosecutors don’t have the legal tools necessary to crack down on such corruption.”
