Statement from FLA DEMS on Sec. Browning’s Announcement State will Challenge Court Preclearance Process of New Voter Law

Tallahassee, FL  – Florida Democratic Party Chairman Rod Smith today released the following statement in response to Secretary of State Kurt Browning’s challenge of the court preclearance process of the GOP-backed voter suppression law.

Statement from Florida Democratic Party Chairman Rod Smith:

“The GOP-backed voter suppression law is a transparent effort aimed at avoiding the requirements of the voting rights act,” said Chairman Smith. “This challenge is an insult to Florida voters and nothing more than an attempt to curtail the assurances set in place to protect each Floridian’s right to cast a ballot and make their voice heard.”

Smith continued, “These actions are indefensible and overtly partisan. As a former Supervisor of Elections, Secretary Browning knows better than to try to suppress the votes of hundreds of thousands of Floridians.”
