Tallahassee, FL — In response to Senator Marco Rubio’s vote today blocking the Senate from debating a bill to keep college affordable for middle class families and stop student loan rates from doubling, the Florida Democratic Party released the following statements:
STATEMENT FROM FDP SPOKESWOMAN BRANNON JORDAN:
“Tea Party Senator Marco Rubio has again put the interests of the Tea Party ahead of Florida’s families — this time he’s targeting students, making it harder for them to afford college. From serving as the lone Gulf Coast senator to vote against aid for families devastated by the BP Oil Spill, to voting no on the Violence Against Women Act — Marco Rubio has consistently shown that he’s willing to put his own political ambitions and partisan politics over the people of Florida.”
STATEMENT FROM FLORIDA COLLEGE DEMOCRATS PRESIDENT TIM MASON:
“It’s clear Republicans like Sen. Marco Rubio and Gov. Rick Scott don’t care about the future of Florida’s students. I was appalled that Senator Rubio would stand in the way of keeping student loan rates low and make it more difficult for Floridians to attend college and build a strong foundation for our state’s future.”
