“Today we come together as Americans to celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As we gather with our family, neighbors and community, we re-affirm our commitment to our shared values of freedom, opportunity and equality. These principles are the bedrock of the American promise, and have made our nation a beacon of liberty since the birth of our country. And as we celebrate these values, we honor those brave American service members who have sacrificed to defend them — both here at home and around the world — with our pledge of undying gratitude.
