WHAT A SHOCKER: RICK SCOTT FAILS TO LIVE UP TO TRANSPARENCY PROMISE

Transparency lacking in Gov. Rick Scott’s ‘Sunburst’ program [Tampa Bay Times] “Rick Scott is the first Florida governor to put his emails online, but his much-touted Project Sunburst remains a shining example of a promise unfulfilled. Scott has not kept a commitment he made more than a year ago to broaden the email transparency system beyond his inner circle of 11 senior staff members to include the many agencies under his command. In fact, the governor’s office still struggles to meet Scott’s own timetable for making messages available.”

PINELLAS SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS (A REPUBLICAN) REFUSES TO CARRY OUT RICK SCOTT’S NEW VOTER PURGE

Sun on Political Connections: Pinellas elections chief won’t do gov’s voter purge [Tampa Bay Times] “Pinellas County Elections Supervisor Deborah Clark appears Sunday on Bay News 9 in Tampa Bay, where she talks about Tuesday’s St. Pete elections, the rise in absentee ballot voting, and her concerns about Gov. Rick Scott’s latest push to purge ineligible voters from the rolls. Clark is a Republican.”

MIAMI HERALD SLAMS SCOTT ADMIN’S “NONSENSE” CONCERNS OVER OBAMACARE NAVIGATORS

State errs in obstructing Affordable Care Act [Miami Herald Editorial] “As the date for implementation of the Affordable Care Act draws near, Americans across the country are receiving useful information from state governments to help them understand how the new law works and how to get the maximum benefit out of it…Furthermore, not content to just sit on their hands, Gov. Rick Scott and the Cabinet are going out of their way to throw a monkey wrench into the process. Last week, they raised phony questions about privacy protection involving the ‘navigators’ who will educate consumers about the new healthcare options and walk them through the enrollment process. This is nonsense. The navigators must comply with privacy and security standards and will not obtain consumers’ information without their consent…The latest questions seem to be part of a larger effort by Gov. Scott and like-minded political allies to obstruct the process at every turn.”

MORE FROM THE MIAMI HERALD ON OBAMACARE: “THE NEW LAW HAS BEEN A SUCCESS”

‘De-funding’ Affordable Care Act: A losing proposition [Miami Herald Editorial] “During this unquiet summer, President Obama and his advocates have carried on a running argument with Republicans and their allies over the merits of the Affordable Care Act, which he must implement on Oct. 1. By far, the president has gotten the better part of this argument. Having failed to stop enactment, the anti-‘Obamacare’ faction, relying on scare tactics and false cries that doom is about to descend, has been waging a nonstop crusade against the law ever since the president signed the bill and made it official. Validation by a conservative Supreme Court, instead of tempering their efforts, only increased the opponents’ fervor.”

AWKWARD: RICK SCOTT FUNDRAISING IN THE HAMPTONS WITH DONOR WHO STARTED PAC TO ATTACK FL GOP LEADERSHIP

Dolphins owner Ross to fundraise for Scott re-election [Politico] “Republican Florida Gov. Rick Scott, who polls show facing a difficult reelection fight, is fundraising this weekend at the Hamptons home of Steve Ross — the Miami Dolphins owner who has become a lead antagonist of some of Florida’s Republican lawmakers…It puts Scott in a slightly delicate position with members of his own party in his state. Ross recently launched a super PAC aimed at supporting Scott and slamming lawmakers of both parties over the rejection of a one-cent increase in the hotel bed tax to help fund a refurbishing of the Dolphins’ stadium.”
