Statement from FDP Chair Allison Tant on the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act

Today, Florida Democratic Party Chair Allison Tant issued the following statement marking the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act:

“Fifty years ago today, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, putting the force of law behind those seeking to end discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. While the Civil Rights Act remains a watershed moment in the fight for equality, there is still work to be done. The fight continues each and every day for tens of thousands of Floridians who still lack protection from discrimination based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.

“So while we remember those who have sacrificed so much on the road to a more perfect union, we must continue in our efforts to ensure the American Dream can be fully realized by all who seek it.”
