Statement on Florida GOP’s Discriminatory Anti-Trans Bill

Today, the House Subcommittee on Government Operations voted to pass Rep. Frank Artiles’ discriminatory, anti-transgender HB 583 on a near-party line vote. This follows a party line vote in the Subcommittee on Civil Justice two weeks ago. Florida Democratic Party Chair Allison Tant released the following statement:

“Here is the bottom line: after twice passing this bill with near-unanimous support, the Republican Party of Florida now owns this discriminatory bill.

“This bigoted attack on transgender Floridians is now the highest profile Republican policy of the 2015 legislative session. Two weeks ago, I was appalled as Florida Republicans stood united to write discrimination into law. Today, I am even more disappointed as the Florida GOP voted again to put Florida’s transgender community and every single business in our state at risk.”
