As Critical Budget Deadline Looms, Scott Leaves Town for NRA Convention

Tallahassee, FL — In response to Governor Rick Scott’s address to the NRA National Convention in Atlanta, Florida Democratic Party President Sally Boynton Brown issued the following statement:

“At every turn, Governor Rick Scott has put his own political interests over protecting Florida families who are demanding commonsense gun safety measures. Even as Florida reels from an epidemic of gun violence – including the horrific Pulse nightclub shooting last year – Scott has refused to back measures like comprehensive background checks and stopping terrorists from buying guns, ideas that have widespread support amongst firearm owners and Floridians of every political persuasion. Furthermore, his absence from the state as a budget deadline looms is telling: he’d rather cater to well-funded interest groups and donors than address critical issues in the state. Today is yet another reminder that Governor Scott always puts himself first, while Floridians pay the price.”
