Trump wants to auction off Florida's shores and destroy our economy

On April 10, Politico reported officials in the Trump administration are “on the cusp” of approving a plan drawn up by oil and natural gas lobbyists to open up Florida’s beautiful shores to major industrial drilling. The proposal would allow Florida’s offshore oil and natural gas drilling, putting the local tourism economy and environment in peril.

According to Politico, the only thing Trump’s Interior Department has been waiting for is the confirmation of David Bernhardt as secretary of the Interior Department. Bernhardt is currently acting secretary, and Republican controlled Senate will likely vote to confirm him this week.

Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo released the following statement slamming the Trump administration:

“Ron DeSantis, Rick Scott and Marco Rubio claim they care about Florida’s economy and environment, but they stand idly by as the Trump administration sells out Florida’s precious natural treasures to Big Oil and Gas. Protecting our beaches is key to our tourism-driven economy –– Trump’s plan to expand oil drilling off our coasts would destroy both our economy and our environment. Ron DeSantis, Rick Scott, and Marco Rubio should be ashamed of themselves –– and if Donald Trump moves forward with auctioning off Florida’s coast, they will all feel the wrath of Florida voters at the ballot box.”
