On Saturday, October 12, over 1,500 Democratic Delegates convened for the Florida Democratic Party’s bi-annual state convention in Orlando. Democratic activist held trainings, strategy meeting, and rallied with Democratic leaders from the state and national party.

During Saturday’s General session Florida Democrats heard from Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, Vice-Chair of the Democratic National Committee, New York Assemblyman Michael Blake, Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, and FDP Chair Terrie Rizzo.

Rizzo kicked off the morning session slamming the GOP: “It is appalling watching our so-called leaders try to explain away the president’s abuse of power. Florida’s highest-ranking Republicans have proven time and again that they put party over country.”

Rizzo added, “Together our Republican Cabinet members have acted as an Axis of Corruption.”

Commissioner Nikki Fried laid out the stakes for 2020 at the convention: “The entire world is counting on us here in Florida.”

Florida delegates voted to approve a package of 18 resolutions, that affirms their commitment to fight for democratic values and opposed a proposed jungle primary that would end party primaries.

The Fighting for Florida Gala Dinner featured U.S. Senator Chris Coons of Delaware, and Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, and had a Congressional panel with Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy, Congressman Darren Soto and Congresswoman Donna Shalala.

“We’re going to work hard to cancel Donald Trump’s reality TV show,” said Senator Chris Coons.

The State convention concludes Sunday, after a meeting of the State Central and Executive Committee.
