Marco Rubio And Rick Scott Vote Against Securing Floridians’ Rights To Reproductive Health Care
Today, as the Supreme Court could be poised to overturn decades of precedent in Roe v. Wade, Marco Rubio and Rick Scott voted against legislation to secure Floridians’ freedom to control their own bodies and make their own health care decisions.
“Marco Rubio and Rick Scott have made it perfectly clear that they support banning abortion with no exceptions, criminalizing women and doctors for making their own health care decisions, and limiting access to basic contraception. These threats to women’s health care have raised the stakes for November’s elections, and Floridians are ready to hold Marco Rubio accountable for systematically attacking our freedoms,” said Florida Democratic Party Executive Director Marcus Dixon.
Marco Rubio has spent years working to overturn Roe v. Wade, supporting abortion bans with no exceptions, and introducing legislation to limit access to contraception:
- Over the course of his political career, Rubio has stated repeatedly that he wants Roe v. Wade to be overturned
- When asked about abortion bans that have rape and incest exceptions, Rubio said he had “never advocated that.”
- Rubio insisted during a CNN interview that he opposed abortion with no exceptions
- Rubio has introduced legislation that could cut off birth control access for millions of women by allowing their employers to deny coverage for it in their insurance plans
