Oklahoma’s Dangerous New Abortion Ban Is A Page Out Of Marco Rubio’s Playbook
Lawmakers in Oklahoma have just passed the nation’s most draconian abortion bill, banning most women from making their own choices about their pregnancies from the moment they become pregnant and empowering vigilantes to sue doctors and those who help women make their own health care decisions. It’s the kind of legislation Marco Rubio has long supported.
“From sponsoring legislation to throw doctors in jail for providing reproductive health care to supporting abortion bans even with no exceptions, Marco Rubio has long campaigned on an extreme anti-choice agenda. Now lawmakers across the country are following his lead, and introducing new legislation to prohibit women from making their own health care choices,” said Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Grant Fox.
Marco Rubio has long supported extreme anti-choice legislation that has formed the basis for Oklahoma’s new law:
- He has openly campaigned on overturning Roe v. Wade
- Rubio introduced legislation to criminalize doctors for providing reproductive health care
- Rubio has backed legislation to redefine personhood, which Republicans are using to justify restrictions on contraception
- During his time in the Florida House, Rubio voted for Florida’s Scarlet Letter Law that required women to publicize their sexual histories in order to place their baby up for adoption
