Marco Rubio Caves To The Gun Lobby Instead Of Protecting Floridians From Gun Violence
Tonight, Marco Rubio once again put politics ahead of protecting Floridians’ lives, siding with his gun lobby donors, and voting against bipartisan legislation that will help save lives and prevent gun violence.
“Marco Rubio had a chance to support commonsense bipartisan legislation to strengthen school safety, protect victims of domestic abuse, protect our law enforcement, and keep communities safe from gun violence. But once again, Rubio chose the special interests in the gun lobby over the lives of his constituents. Floridians deserve better than a career politician like Marco Rubio who sells them out to the gun industry and sides with convicted criminals over their victims,” said Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Grant Fox.
The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act includes a commonsense provisions to reduce gun violence, including:
- Strengthening background checks
- Incentivizing states to implement “red flag” laws
- Closing the “boyfriend loophole” to keep victims of domestic violence safe from their abusers
- More investments in mental health services for children and families
