NEW POLL: DeSantis’s Extreme Agenda Highly Unpopular Across the Country

Today, Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried released the following statement on new polling from Yahoo News and YouGov on Ron DeSantis’s extreme agenda:

“As Ron DeSantis pushes to pass his extreme far-right legislation to win over the MAGA base in preparation for his run for president, Americans are sending a clear message: We don’t want his extremist agenda or him.”

Key Points:

“The new survey shows that more Americans oppose than favor seven out of eight signature policies put forward by DeSantis in Florida,” including: 

• Banning abortions after six weeks of pregnancy (including for victims of rape and incest who can’t provide official documentation of the crime, such as a police report) is opposed by 50% of Americans.”

• Allowing people to carry a concealed firearm without a license or safety training is opposed by 66% of Americans.”

• 44% oppose government review of public school books (for requiring public school books to be reviewed for content “the government deems inappropriate”.)

• 55% oppose granting political appointees power to fire tenured faculty members at public colleges and universities at any time and for any reason.
