FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC PARTY STATEMENT ON FLORIDA SUPREME COURT ABORTION BAN HEARING
Following today’s Florida Supreme Court hearing on Ron DeSantis’ abortion ban, Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried shared the following statement:
“Make no mistake, Ron DeSantis will sign a national ban on abortion if he becomes president. Today, the Florida Supreme Court – stacked with five of his appointees – held oral arguments on whether or not to uphold the 15-week abortion ban, which would trigger an almost complete ban on abortion in the state of Florida in the next 30 days,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried.
“If this ban is upheld, women will no longer have the freedom to make their own healthcare decisions in the ‘free state’ of Florida. They will be forced to carry pregnancies to term against their will. There are over 4 million women of reproductive age in Florida, many who will not even know they are pregnant at six weeks. Let’s be clear: This ban will not prevent abortions, it will prevent access to safe, legal abortions.
“This extreme ban on a woman’s right to make her own private healthcare decisions is dangerous and will have major implications not just for Florida, but all across the South. We’ll make sure to remind Ron DeSantis and his allies what he took from us at the ballot box.”
