FLORIDA DEMOCRATS WELCOME ACTION ON GUN VIOLENCE LESS THAN ONE MONTH AFTER JACKSONVILLE SHOOTING

Today, Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan will travel to meet with President Joe Biden to discuss gun violence, following last month’s mass shooting at a dollar store. In response, the Florida Democratic Party has issued the following statement:

“Less than a month after the racially motivated mass shooting in Jacksonville, Democrats are taking action on gun violence,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried.

“We applaud President Biden for working with Mayor Deegan and other state and local leaders to identify sensible solutions to prevent gun violence with the launch of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention today, led by Vice President Kamala Harris.”

“Don’t forget, Ron vetoed millions in funding for community gun violence prevention programs and Black history just before the state’s permitless carry law took effect. Democrats have always stepped up to protect our communities while so-called ‘law and order’ Republicans have only made it easier for criminals to get guns and terrorize our streets. We are thankful for the leadership of Mayor Deegan on the ground and the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment in Washington – the fight continues.”
