Florida Democratic Party Responds to December 5th Elections

In response to last night’s elections in Miami-Dade and Polk counties, the Florida Democratic Party has issued the following statement:

“First, congratulations to Pastor Clifton Dollison for his win in the Winter Haven City Commission election,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “Pastor Dollison has long been an advocate for justice in his community, and I trust that his work on the City Commission will improve the lives of the people of Winter Haven.

“As for the special election in House District 118, I’d like to thank Johnny Farias and our dedicated team of Democratic volunteers on a hard-fought campaign. While we’re disappointed to lose the election, the contrast between 2022 and now couldn’t be clearer. In 2022, Republicans carried this seat by 37 points — this year, we cut that margin to 6.

“At our state convention this year, I told party leaders that taking back Florida is a marathon, not a sprint. I’m proud of the work we’ve done this year to kick off that marathon, and I look forward to more opportunities in 2024 — starting with taking back House District 35.”
