FLORIDA DEMOCRATS CONDEMN RICK SCOTT FOR THREATENING TO SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT

Yesterday, Congress came to a bipartisan stopgap agreement to avoid a government shutdown. The final vote in the Senate was 77-13, with all no votes coming from Republican Senators, including Rick Scott. In response, the Florida Democratic Party has issued the following statement:

“By voting for a government shutdown, Rick Scott yet again put his self-serving politics ahead of the needs of Floridians,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “America’s richest Senator clearly doesn’t care how hard-working people living paycheck to paycheck could be affected by his political stunts.

“For some reason, Rick Scott has looked at the House Chaos Caucus and decided that he’d like to see the Senate go the same direction. With Mitch McConnell retiring this year, the last thing Americans can afford is another extremist holding the gavel — which is why it’s so important for Florida to elect a Democrat this fall and send Rick Scott into retirement.”
