FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC PARTY JOINS CALLS FOR CONGRESSIONAL HEARING AND SUPPORT MISSION IN HAITI

In response to intensifying violence and unrest in Haiti, the Florida Democratic Party has issued the following statement:

“Haiti is in a state of emergency,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “Following recent developments, Florida Democrats join calls led by our congressional Democratic delegation urging leaders in Washington to hold a congressional hearing on the crisis in Haiti and calls for Governor DeSantis to release the funds to support a Multinational Security Support mission. We must act now to provide policy recommendations and assistance to the Haitian people.”

“While Ron DeSantis is using taxpayer dollars to surveil the seas for desperate people escaping the violent takeover in Haiti, it’s up to us to condemn the violence, advocate for solutions to stabilize the country and support a democratic transition in Haiti.

“As the violence and unrest intensifies in Haiti, we renew our commitment to standing in solidarity with the Haitian people and our community in Florida, who are suffering as many of their loved ones are caught in the middle of the chaos and reiterate calls for action to restore peace.”
