FDP Chairwoman Terrie Rizzo's Statement on Andrew Gillum's Victory in the Democratic Gubernatorial Primary
Today, FDP Chair Terrie Rizzo released the following statement on Andrew Gillum's victory in the gubernatorial primary:
"This is a historic and proud night for the state of Florida. Andrew Gillum — the son of a construction worker and school bus driver from Richmond Heights in Miami — is now on the verge of becoming Florida's next governor. Andrew ran an inspirational campaign that spoke to the hopes of Florida's working families and energized Democrats in every corner of our state.
"As Governor, Andrew will fight for Florida's working families by ensuring affordable health care is a right for every Floridian, creating good-paying jobs with dignity, making sure every child gets a world-class public education, and finally passing the common sense gun safety laws we badly need.
"As the Mayor of Tallahassee, Andrew always put people first — fearlessly taking on the gun lobby, investing in workforce training, reforming the criminal justice system, and building a thriving, more inclusive economy economy. After Andrew's victory, I'm confident that Democrats will end twenty years of Republican rule in Tallahassee and finally elect a governor who will put the people of Florida first.
"I also want to express my gratitude to Gwen Graham, Philip Levine, Chris King, and Jeff Greene for running issue-driven, principled campaigns. The Democratic gubernatorial primary was substantive, competitive, and energizing — and has made our party stronger. I look forward to continuing to work with Gwen, Philip, Chris and Jeff as we all fight for a stronger Florida that leaves no one behind."
