Florida Democrats Respond to Donald Trump's Attacks on Puerto Rico and Diverting Funds from FEMA
Florida Democrats slammed Trump after his recent attacks over Puerto Rico officials as Hurricane Dorian approaches the island, and his decision of redirecting money from FEMA to build his useless border wall.
Congresswoman Val Demings sent a statement declaring: "There's a storm approaching land that may kill American citizens and the President of the United States is insulting and attacking the people in harm's way while taking funding away from FEMA." Her response was published by Florida Politics: As Dorian approaches, Central Florida lawmakers pledge Puerto Rico aid; Val Demings rips Donald Trump.
Congresswoman Kathy Castor responded on Twitter to Trump's attack criticizing his "weak response to Hurricane Maria made the devastation of Puerto Rico worse and cost American lives" and the recent news of FEMA funds being diverted to fund Trump's border wall.
Pres. Trump’s weak response to Hurricane Maria made the devastation of #PuertoRico worse & cost American lives. Another major storm has #Florida & #PuertoRico in its sights but Trump is diverting resources away from FEMA to fund his wasteful border wall. https://t.co/VLZtmQ82Hn— US Rep Kathy Castor (@USRepKCastor) August 28, 2019
Congressman Charlie Crist sent a tweet condemning Trump's decision of diverting disaster relief needed for natural disasters and called for the President to "reverse course on this decision immediately."
President Trump’s decision to divert disaster relief funds is wrong and dangerous. It’s the height of hurricane season with a storm bearing down on Puerto Rico and Florida, & American lives are at risk. I strongly urge the President to reverse course on this decision immediately. https://t.co/HyxJ04zCUC— Rep. Charlie Crist (@RepCharlieCrist) August 28, 2019
Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, who has advocated to close detention centers for immigrant children, criticizes Trump's decision via Twitter and condemn using FEMA money to detain families and children.
Unbelievable. In the middle of hurricane season, as #TropicalStormDorian approaches, and while we’re still recovering from past storms, Trump is taking money away from FEMA so he can detain more migrant families & children. https://t.co/i2FYsW50RM— Rep.
