House Democrats Pass Dream Act, Succeeding Where Miami Republicans Failed

Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives, under Democratic leadership, passed the American Dream and Promise Act, providing a path to citizenship to Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders in the United States. The Miami Herald published an article highlighting how Florida Democrats in Congress fulfilled their campaign promises by pushing for this legislation that for years failed to pass under Republican leadership.

Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo released the following statement after the passage of the bill:

“Thanks to Democratic leadership in the House, the American Dream and Promised Act was approved, creating a path to citizenship to millions of hard-working young people and families who call our country home. Now it is time for the Senate to stand with the majority of Americans who support this legislation and pass it.

“When Republicans were in leadership, they played politics and failed to pass protections for millions of undocumented people, and this is why it is important we remember that elections have consequences. When we elect Democrats who truly represent our communities, we make sure that our country is a better place for each one of us.”
