Javier Fernandez Wins Special Election in HD 114
Javier Fernandez has captured enough votes to win the House District 114 Special Election.
"I am beyond grateful to be chosen to serve the people in the community I love," said Rep.-elect Fernandez. "I am proud of the campaign we ran, we spoke to people about issues in our community, about improving our public schools, protecting our children from gun violence, improving Florida's infrastructure, and taking real action to deal with climate change."
Rep.-elect Fernandez's win comes after a string of special election victories, including the elections of Senator Annette Taddeo and Representative Margaret Good, both who flipped districts held by Republicans and a massive 50 point win for Democrat Lori Berman in SD 31. Incoming Minority-leader Kionne McGhee lead efforts on the ground through House Victory to help elect Fernandez.
"I am so excited to have Javier join us in the Florida House, he will be a great addition to our growing caucus, and I know he will be a strong advocate for District 114," said Incoming Minority-leader McGhee. "Javier ran a better race, and a better campaign, and we are going to continue to work hard to elect more candidates like Javier in 2018."
This is the last special election until the Primary Election in August. Chair of the Florida Democratic Party, Terrie Rizzo, released the following statement after Fernandez's win Tuesday:
"Tonight's special election victory is the latest of a string of special election victories for Florida Democrats which shows us that after nearly 20 years of failed Republican leadership - people are ready for change. Let the Blue Wave Continue!"
