Today, State Senator Janet Cruz released the following statement on Governor Ron DeSantis’s plan to use FEFP general revenue funding to create a new voucher program:

“Ron DeSantis’s education proposal is nothing more than an unconstitutional attempt to destroy our public school system and force Florida taxpayers to pay for a voucher program. Let’s be clear: this plan would illegally funnel FEFP money to private, unaccountable, for-profit entities — something the Florida Supreme Court has already ruled is unconstitutional. Our schools are suffering from crumbling facilities, a growing teacher shortage, and chronic underinvestment. We need a massive investment in our public schools — not an illegal voucher scheme that will gut public education funding and jeopardize our kids’ future.”
