Rick Hoye
Biography
Rick Hoye is currently the chairman of the Broward Democratic Party. Born and raised in Detroit Michigan, he studied at Wayne State University in Detroit where he earned a Bachelor of Public Affairs with a concentration in Public Management. Rick worked for the Catholic Church in Detroit for seven years before joining the police academy.
He went on to work for the Detroit Police Department as a patrol officer, and later as a detention Deputy in Broward County, Florida. He earned a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice, and later went on to become a teacher in the
Broward County Public School Systems where he has worked for the past 15 years. He is also pursuing a Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership.
Rick got his start in Politics as a Neighborhood Teams Leader for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. He later joined the Broward Democrats and was elected President in 2010. In 2013, he became an Area Leader for the Broward Democratic Party and served in that role for 4 years. Additionally, he has been a club president and served as First Vice Chair of the Broward Democratic Party before being elected as the first Black Chair of the Broward Democratic Party in 2020.
Rick is an 8th grade United States History teacher, a union steward, and State President of the Florida future labor leaders, a subsidiary of the AFL-CIO.
Rick is running for Florida Democratic Party Chair to implement infrastructure that supports a year-round ground game around neighborhood teams, meeting people in the community where they are by bringing them into the political process, and restoring Florida democratic volunteers and donors. Effective messaging that is targeted and presented in plain language, aggressive high, medium, and low dollar fundraising on a continuous basis are also major components around Rick’s platform. Additionally, the goal of driving Democratic turnout to 80% and increasing our impact on all stakeholders that are invested in Democratic principles.
