Does Allen West Stand with South Florida Seniors or his Radical Booster Dick Armey on Cutting Social Security and Medicare?
As Republican Congressional candidate Allen West takes campaign cash from one of his biggest boosters today, FreedomWorks chairman Dick Armey, the Florida Democratic Party blasted West for marching in lock step with Armey, an extremist.
“FreedomWorks founder and Allen West patron Dick Armey has called Medicare ‘tyranny’ and said that ‘we have to bite the bullet’ and get rid of Social Security. The voters of South Florida have the right to know if Allen West believes in the same crazy notions,” Florida Democratic Party spokesman Eric Jotkoff said.
Armey, who is holding a fundraiser for West in Jupiter tonight, has repeatedly slammed Social Security and Medicare, proposing that Social Security be privatized or “phased out” and saying that Medicare is “a program that I would have no part of in a free world.” His FreedomWorks organization, which endorsed West, said that Social Security is “full of meaningless government IOUS.”
“When Washington insider Dick Armey says ‘jump’ Allen West’s only question is ‘How high?'” Jotkoff said. “Armey is rewarding West with campaign cash, so in return will Allen West swear his loyalty to the cause of privatizing social security and cutting Medicare?
“The hardworking people in Florida’s 22nd Congressional District deserve answers to some important questions. Does Allen West believe that during the worst economy in 70 years we should balance the national checkbook on the backs of our seniors who count on their Social Security and Medicare benefits? Does Allen West think Social Security should be privatized or gutted? And, does he believe there should be cuts to Medicare?”
