Thurman Statement on President Obama’s Small Business Jobs Package
Today, President Obama urged Congressional passage of a Small Business Jobs Package. The Small Business Jobs Package follows initiatives enacted through the Recovery Act, health reform, and the HIRE Act that have also supported small businesses’ growth and success. Florida Democratic Party Chair Karen Thurman released the following statement in response:
“I would like to take this opportunity to applaud President Obama for his ongoing efforts to help America’s small businesses. Here in Florida, small businesses of all kinds have weathered the economic storm and are beginning to thrive again – in large part due to programs enacted by President Obama and Democrats in Congress. Through the Recovery Act, health reform, and the HIRE Act, small businesses have received unprecedented support that has enabled them to invest in new projects, new employees, and new growth. The Small Business Jobs Package that the President has announced will help even more small businesses lay the foundation for a successful future by increasing credit and lending to small businesses and supporting small businesses’ investment with new tax credits.
“Small businesses are nothing less than the backbone of the American economy. By strengthening these critical enterprises, President Obama and Democrats in Congress are strengthening our economy as a whole and hastening a full economic recovery. That’s good news for small businesses and workers here in Florida and all across America, and I hope Republicans in Congress will join with Democrats to enact the President’s Small Business Jobs Package as soon as possible.”
