Thurman Statement on Recovery Act Boosting GDP by up to 4.2% in First Three Months of 2010 and Putting Up to 2.8 Million Americans to Work
Yesterday, the Congressional Budget Office released a new report showing that President Obama’s Recovery Act, supported by Democrats in Congress, put up to 2.8 million Americans to work and boosted GDP by up to 4.2 percent in the first three months of 2010. The reported numbers are higher than the CBO’s estimates a year ago and show the Recovery Act has been instrumental in bringing the economy back from the brink. Florida Democratic Party Chair Karen Thurman released the following statement in response:
“When President Obama took office well over a year ago, our economy was in a freefall and we were losing jobs at the pace of 750,000 a month. But thanks to the extraordinary leadership of President Obama and Congressional Democrats, our economy has not only been brought back from the brink, but our country’s economy is heading in the right direction and putting Americans back to work.
“Across our nation, we see the numerous benefits of the Recovery Act; from rebuilding our infrastructure to the hiring and retention of police officers, teachers and firefighters, our economy is finally beginning to turn around. And there is no doubt that the actions taken by President Obama and our Democratic leaders were instrumental in rescuing the economy and creating and saving jobs.
“We have a long way to go to dig out from the hole we were in, but the impact of the Recovery Act is being felt across our nation. It is strengthening our economy as a whole, and most importantly putting people back to work. I applaud President Obama and Congressional Democrats for taking the necessary steps to help small businesses and workers across America and for the important work they are still doing to continue to move our economy forward.”
