Chairman Smith Endorses Legislation To Move Presidential Primary Date
Florida Democratic Party Chairman Rod Smith today announced his endorsement of legislation moving Florida’s Presidential Primary, which has been filed by Sen. Arthenia Joyner and Rep. Martin Kiar.
The legislation, which would move the 2012 primary from January 31 to March 6, follows Republican Governor Rick Scott’s stated goal of holding the primary on the earliest date within the rules so Florida isn’t penalized.
“On behalf of the Florida Democratic Party, I would like to applaud Sen. Arthenia Joyner and Rep. Martin Kiar and endorse their efforts to move the Presidential Primary to March.
“With the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee adopting the same timing rules for the first time ever, setting the example of bi-partisan cooperation, it is our sincere hope that the Republican Legislature will pass the legislation from Sen. Joyner and Rep. Kiar that will ensure full representation of our state at both the Democratic and Republican national conventions.”
