Chairman Smith Renews Demand That Gov. Scott Must Immediately Resubmit Preclearance Application On Fair Districts Now That He Lacks Census Data Excuse
Reacting to the Miami Herald/St. Petersburg Times reporting that Florida has started to receive the U.S. Census data, taking away Governor Rick Scott’s number one excuse for why he secretly withdrew the preclearance application on Fair Districts, Florida Democratic Party Chairman Rod Smith today demanded that the Governor finally resubmit the necessary paperwork:
“After weeks of excuses from Governor Rick Scott, as he works to obstruct the will of nearly 63% of Florida’s voters who enshrined fundamental standards of fairness in the Florida Constitution, we renew our call today that the Governor  finally resubmit the necessary paperwork for preclearance.
“While the Census data continues to be irrelevant to the preclearance process, now that the state has started receiving the data, Rick Scott has run out of excuses.
“The Florida Democratic Party will not sit back and allow the will of Floridians to be frustrated or delayed by those who simply seek to deny Floridians fair elections in fair districts.”
