Statement from FLA DEMS Chairman Rod Smith on Tonight’s GOP Presidential Debate
Tallahassee, FL – The Florida Democratic Party issued the following statement in response to tonight’s GOP Presidential debate in Tampa, FL.
Statement from Florida Democratic Party Chairman Rod Smith:
“The Republican candidates on stage tonight, once again, offered no solutions to help Florida’s seniors and middle class families. Instead, they continued running hard to the right, embracing the Tea Party agenda inpandering to the most extreme wing of their party.
“Make no mistake, the Tea Party agenda includes ending Medicare as we know it, eroding Social Security, and, if fully implemented in 2012, eliminating 9.5 million jobs across America. Instead, of focusing on helping Florida’s families, the Tea Party is laser-focused on tax giveaways for the wealthiest Americans, tax breaks for large corporations and allowing special interests to write their own rules – the same strategies from their playbook that got us into this recession in the first place.
“In Florida, we’ve seen the Tea Party agenda in action. Our Republican Governor has been implementing a devastating, job-killing agenda based on Tea Party ideology rather than a real-time, practical solution for job creation. Meanwhile, the Florida Republican Legislature has stood by as tens of thousands of Florida businesses vanished under their watch.
“It’s time to put politics, ploys and posturing aside. And focus on helping middle class families instead of asking them to carry all the burden.”
