Bad timing alert: Jim Greer trial bashing GOP could dovetail with Republican Tampa convention
Former Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer is promising a tell-all of sorts at his criminal fraud trial, which could be deeply embarrassing for GOP officials.
Now it could get worse for the GOP in the court of public opinion.
Greer’s wife, Lisa Greer, tells Naked Politics that the trial date is set for July 30, 2012. Depending on how long the trial lasts, it could dovetail with the Republican National Convention in August, when the party is picking its presidential nominee in Tampa, a little more than an hour’s drive from the Orlando court house where Greer will be tried.
Here’s her statement: I have been advised by my husband’s attorney’s that the court has set Jim’s trial for July 30, 2012. It seems that the Republican leadership is finally begining to reap what they have sown, as this is two weeks prior to the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa. With all eyes focused on the Sunshine State I look forward to Jim having the opportunity to tell the truth, clear his good name and hold those current and former elected officials, political consultants and lobbyists who orchestrated a criminal case against him simply to avoid honoring the severance/hold harmless agreement and covering up for their own actions accountable. As a lifelong Republican, I remain proud of Jim’s service to the Party as Chairman, he worked tirelessly to make the party stronger, inclusive and relevant. It saddens me greatly that many Republican leaders that I respected and thought were friends, went to such great lengths to destroy Jim and the future of my family. The trial will serve as a day of reckoning for those who chose to protect their own corrupt political careers and selfish ambitions by destroying the once honorable reputation of an innocent man.
