Statement from FDP Chair in Support of President Obama's Speech today in OH

In Contrast, Mitt Romney’s Vision Would Take Us Backward to the Failed Policies of the Past Decade

Tallahassee, FL – The Florida Democratic Party today released the following statement from Chairman Rod Smith in support of the President’s speech in Ohio today which laid out the clear choice between President Obama’s vision to move our country forward and Mitt Romney’s vision that would take us backward:

“Today in Ohio, President Obama laid out a clear vision to keep moving us forward toward an economy built to last.  He believes that America prospers when hard work pays off, responsibility is rewarded, and everyone gets a fair shot, does their fair share and plays by the same set of rules. That’s how we grow our economy and the middle class, create good jobs and pay down the debt.  In contrast, Mitt Romney and his allies in Congress believe a budget-busting 25-percent tax cut for the wealthiest is more important than investments that grow our economy and the middle class. They believe that if we let Wall Street write its own rules again, the market will solve all our problems on its own.

“If we’re going to out-educate the rest of the world, we need to invest in good teachers and help more students go to college and get job training – not pack kids into crowded classrooms and slash scholarships. If we’re going to out-innovate the rest of the world, we need to invest in our best scientists, researchers and entrepreneurs so they innovate here – not cede leadership to countries like China and India. If we’re going to out-build the rest of the world, we need roads, bridges, ports and broadband technology that attract businesses that will create jobs here – not pet projects, bridges to nowhere, and crumbling infrastructure.

“We tried Mitt Romney’s failed formula for most of the previous decade. It benefitted a few at the top, but crashed our economy and devastated the middle class. It didn’t grow our economy, create good jobs or pay down our debt – it did the opposite, and we saw the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.  This election, the American people will get to choose which path we take as a nation.  It’s a choice between whether we go forward together with President Obama or go backward with Mitt Romney.  That’s why the American people will reelect President Obama and support his vision for the future.”
