Florida Democratic Party Statement on the Resignation of Education Commissioner Tony Bennett

Tallahassee, FL — Today, for the third time since March, another top-ranking official in Rick Scott’s administration has resigned in scandal. Education Commissioner Tony Bennett’s resignation is welcome news to Floridians, who know that Florida’s education system should not be lead by an individual who used pay-to-play tactics just months ago to change a top donor’s school grade.

“I wholeheartedly welcome the resignation of Tony Bennett,” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Allison Tant. “I hope this serves as another wake-up call to Governor Scott, who has again and again showed his inability to hire qualified individuals for top positions within his administration. First Jennifer Carroll, then David Wilkins, and now Tony Bennett — Rick Scott’s department of bad hires continues to grow under the governor’s failed leadership.”
