Supreme Court Says GOP Legislature Mandates Injustice Against College Graduate Florida Dreamers

The Florida Supreme Court called on the GOP-led Legislature to rectify an injustice against the Hispanic community. Today, undocumented immigrant and Florida State University Law School Graduate Jose Godinez-Samperio has been denied admission to the Florida Bar.

Jose, now 26 years old, was brought to Florida by his parents when he was just nine years old. He is the embodiment of the American Dream. He works hard, plays by the rules, and is hoping to further his professional career. Jose was the valedictorian of his high school, is an Eagle Scout, and graduated from law school, now he just wants the state of Florida to allow him to practice law.

The GOP-led Legislature can solve this injustice, but will they?

“The GOP-led Legislature should not stand in the way of Jose’s dream of becoming a lawyer in Florida. He is has lived here in Florida almost his entire life, and is an exemplary resident of our state. Tea Party Republicans and Rick Scott should stop standing in the way of the dreams of all young people,” said Florida Democratic Party Chair Allison Tant.
