Marco Rubio's ACA Alternative: Ending Medicare As We Know It

Today, in an op-ed for Fox News, Marco Rubio outlined his alternative to the Affordable Care Act, and you had better read the fine print: his plan ends Medicare as we know it — just like Paul Ryan tried to do.

In response, Florida Democratic Party Chair Allison Tant issued the following statement:

“Is the end of Medicare the price Florida’s seniors will have to pay for Marco Rubio’s partisan ambition? Rubio’s alternative to the Affordable Care Act, which has led to the largest drop in the uninsured rate in decades, would be to dramatically undermine the precious Medicare guarantee. This is a risk Florida’s seniors simply cannot afford, and they will reject Rubio’s plan to end the health care they depend on.”

Background:

Op-Ed: Rubio says Medicare “should be transitioned into a premium support system.” As part of his plan to replace the ACA, Rubio writes, “Third…Medicare, meanwhile, should be transitioned into a premium support system, empowering seniors with choice and market competition, just like Medicare Advantage and Part D already do.” (foxnews.com, 3/23/15)
