Today, Florida Democratic Party Chair Allison Tant issued the following statement regarding Congressional Republicans’ shameful refusal to help Puerto Rico out of their debt crisis: 

“As Puerto Rico’s debt crisis spirals out of control, Congressional Republicans refused to work with Democrats who sought to help rid the island of large portion of their debt at no cost to taxpayers. Instead, Republican leaders have continued to play politics as hospitals close and businesses shutter. 

“Treasury officials have warned that refusing to act risks turning the situation into a humanitarian crisis for the 3.5 million Americans living on the island, yet Republicans remain unmoved. That is unconscionable and unacceptable.”
