Statement on Rubio’s Endorsements from Former Bush Backers

Today, Florida Democratic Party Chair Allison Tant issued the following statement in response to Florida Republicans dumping Jeb Bush and rushing to endorse his more extreme but less-accomplished mini-me, Marco Rubio:

“If these politicians couldn’t help Jeb overcome the Trump machine, what makes them think they can help put Rubio – who lost every single delegate in South Carolina to Trump – over the top?

“Rubio could not be more out of step with Floridians on the issues that matter most. He supports gutting programs like education and Social Security to pay for more tax cuts for the wealthy, a reckless foreign policy approach that puts Americans in danger, taking health care away from 19 million Americans and taking away a woman’s right to choose — even in the cases of rape and incest. He supported immigration reform until he didn’t, and ran away from the Gang of 8 bill under Tea Party pressure.

“We know Marco lacks experience and frequently skips out on his taxpayer-funded job, but even he must be able to recall the damage inflicted the last time a Republican occupied the White House — and how Florida has gone blue in presidential elections ever since. Floridians deserve a president who will stand up and fight for them. Marco Rubio has made it clear that when he can be bothered to show up to work the only thing he fights for is the advancement of his political career.”
