Yesterday, Marco Rubio sat down with the Miami Herald Editorial Board to explain why he thinks voters should give him a second chance to make up for his disastrous first term in the Senate.
During the interview, Rubio confessed he was fulfilling his pledge to support the GOP presidential nominee in order to gain access to voter data. When asked if he would promise to serve all 6 years of another Senate term, Rubio refused to commit to serving Florida because, “no one can tell you what the world looks like in 4 to 8 years, and I’ve learned the hard way not to rule anything out.”
But the most chilling part of the interview came when Rubio admitted that he still stands by his criticism of Donald Trump despite promising to vote for him in November. Rubio is willing to support a “con man” whom he doesn’t trust with nuclear weapons if it means he can improve his electoral chances.
Morning Joe on MSNBC: “He’s a con man and you’re supporting him. What does that say about you? He’s a racist and you’re supporting him. What does that say about you?”
CNN: Marco Rubio stands by calling Trump a ‘con artist,’ still supports him. “Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is standing by his description of Donald Trump as “a con artist,” but he says in a new interview he still plans to support the real estate mogul for president.”
Miami Herald: Rubio stands by calling Trump ‘con man,’ but still backs him. “In the heat of the Republican presidential primary, Marco Rubio called Donald Trump a “con man.” And he doesn’t take it back. “I’ve stood by everything I ever said in my campaign,” Rubio told the Miami Herald editorial board Monday. But Rubio still supports Trump for president. In fact, Rubio insists, Trump is partly why he reversed himself and chose to run for the U.S. Senate again.”
MSNBC: Marco Rubio’s line on Trump still needs work. “During the race for the Republican presidential nomination, Rubio was quite candid in his condemnations of Trump. The Floridian referred to Trump as a “lunatic” and a “con man.” Rubio’s campaign, quite literally, sold #NeverTrump swag on its website. The senator told audiences that Trump might urinate on himself, mocked Trump’s hair and face, and even made vulgar jokes about Trump’s genitals.”
Talking Points Memo: Rubio Stands By Claim That Trump Is A ‘Con Man’, Still Supports Him. “In the final weeks of his 2016 presidential run, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) threw every insult in the book at Donald Trump, calling him a litigious, “orange” “con man.” The Florida senator said Monday that he will not retract those comments, even though he is now supporting Trump’s campaign.”
Tampa Bay Times: Marco Rubio stands by ‘con man’ remark but maintains support for Trump. “He said that he signed a pledge to support the nominee, and added that it helped him gain access to GOP voter data.”
