Florida Democratic Party Concludes National Search, Hires Sally Boynton Brown as New President
Boynton Brown brings extensive experience in party building and grassroots infrastructure development from her time as President of the Association of Democratic State Party Executive Directors and Executive Director of the Idaho Democratic Party
After an extensive national search, the Florida Democratic Party has hired Sally Boynton Brown as its new President.
Ms. Boynton Brown’s national profile and extensive party building experience played a large role in her selection as the President of the Florida Democratic Party. She currently serves as the national President of Democratic State Party Directors, was a candidate for DNC National Chair, serves as a member of DNC Chair Tom Perez’s transition team, and founded the Democratic Lead discussion group, a collaboration of national Democratic organizations focused on increasing the numbers of women leaders in the Democratic Party through discussion, engagement, and support.
“Sally shares my optimistic, idealistic enthusiasm,” said FDP Chair Stephen Bittel. Her national profile and experience as President of the Democratic State Party Directors are a testament to her impressive party and infrastructure building skills. I look forward to her bringing her knowledge of state party management to Florida as we work to turn our state back to blue.”
During her time as national President of the Association of State Democratic State Executive Directors, Sally traveled the country, training other Democratic parties how to operate, build infrastructure, balance budgets and win elections. As the Executive Director of the Idaho Democratic Party, Boynton Brown has overseen Democratic victories, and begun successful statewide party building campaigns including candidate training and internship programs. In addition, Boynton Brown expanded the donor base in the Idaho Democratic Party, bringing them into the black and operating with a consistent surplus. Most recently Boynton Brown received the We Are Emily national award from Emily’s List for her work in Democratic party building.
“I am thrilled to join the FDP team as we engage the grassroots in the work needed to build our party and to win local, state and federal races throughout Florida,” said new FDP President Sally Boynton Brown. “I look forward to working with everyone across the state as we invigorate the party and save Florida from the GOP policies that harm our lives every day.”
Sally Boynton Brown grew up in a working class Idaho family. She is proud to be a mother, wife, community leader, small business owner, and a mentor to women.
Sally earned a degree in Communication, with an emphasis in conflict management, from Boise State University. While putting herself through college, Sally juggled multiple small-businesses to support her three young children.
Sally began her career in politics by managing winning legislative races and working on Idaho’s gubernatorial race. She then went to work with the Idaho Democratic Party (IDP). After serving in several key staff positions she became the Executive Director. Sally worked to create better cooperation between states. She assumed a leadership role at the Association of State Democratic State Executive Directors (ASDED) and now serves as its president. She ran for national DNC Chair in 2017.
In 2013, Sally began the Lead discussion group, a collaboration of national Democratic organizations focused on increasing the number of women leaders in our Party through discussion, engagement, and support.
Sally specializes in developing activist capabilities and operational structure to build strong organizations. She has successfully increased fundraising capacities at the IDP and ASDED. At the IDP she has maintained her team of full-time staff and ended each of year with a surplus, a rare feat for a red state.
