Instead of Condemning Trump’s Remarks, Governor Scott Flies to New Jersey to Do Lunch with Him
After Governor Scott refused to condemn Donald Trump’s defense of white supremacists, Politico broke news that Governor Scott was flying to New Jersey for a lunch with Donald Trump.

In response, Florida Democratic Party Communications Director Johanna Cervone issued the following statement:

“Twenty-four hours after Governor Rick Scott and his entire cabinet refused to condemn President Trump’s defense of white supremacists and Neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, Governor Scott is flying to New Jersey for a private lunch with Donald Trump. Governor Scott’s self-serving silence on Trump’s reprehensible comments is morally delinquent. The President of the United States has come to the defense of Neo-Nazis and white supremacists, and Governor Scott must condemn Donald Trump for his words — there were not ‘many sides’ responsible for the deaths of three Americans, and white supremacists are not ‘fine people’. At this critical moment, it is past time for Scott to set aside his self-serving political agenda — anything less than a full rebuke of the President’s words sends a clear message that our Governor will welcome these same white supremacists to Florida with a wink and a nod.” said Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Johanna Cervone.
