Florida Democratic Party Letter to Governor Rick Scott on Senate District 40 Special Election
Please see the letter below from FDP Chair Stephen Bittel to Governor Rick Scott regarding the special election in Senate District 40.

The Honorable Rick Scott

RE: Special Election SD 40
Dear Governor Scott:
Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have endured great challenges with Hurricane Irma, especially those in The Florida Keys and South Miami-Dade County. We are all aware of the damage wrought upon the State of Florida as a result of the impacts of Hurricane Irma.
The Southern portions of Miami-Dade County are among the hardest hit parts of our state with a great percentage of our homes without power. Schools are closed indefinitely and government and utility workers believe the cleanup efforts will continue for a long time.
Amidst this backdrop of personal and property loss, opening early voting polls for the Senate District 40 special elections would be inappropriate. Our community is focused on rebuilding and recovery, not voting.
I urge you to delay the SD 40 September 26th special general elections, for a period of two weeks, until October 11th, 2017, when our community has had the necessary time to heal.
Sincerely,
Stephen Bittel
Chair
Florida Democratic Party
