Do Putnam, Corcoran, and DeSantis Think DREAMers are “Lazy”?

Do Adam Putnam, Richard Corcoran, and Ron DeSantis Think That DREAMers are “Lazy”?

Tallahassee, FL. — Today, The Washington Post published audio of White House Chief of Staff John Kelly insulting Dreamers and insisting that they were “too lazy to get off their asses” and sign up for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The news is the Trump administration’s latest attack on immigrant communities and Florida’s approximately 32,800 DREAMers.

The question now for Florida’s Republican gubernatorial candidates Adam Putnam, Ron DeSantis, and Richard Corcoran is whether they agree with Kelly that Dreamers are lazy, or instead will condemn the Trump administration’s latest attack on immigrants.

So far, all three Republican candidates have been more interested in embracing Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda than standing up for Florida’s families. Just last night on Fox News, DeSantis essentially said that he supported deporting Dreamers. Last week Corcoran infamously ran a widely condemned, anti-immigrant ad. And this morning, Adam Putnam spoke glowingly about Trump’s proposed border wall. Putnam has previously expressed support for ending DACA and voted against the DREAM Act in 2010.

“Today, John Kelly was just the latest Trump administration official to demonize, attack and insult DREAMers. Will Adam Putnam, Richard Corcoran, and Ron DeSantis stand up to Trump and Kelly’s hate? Or do they also think that DREAMers are ‘lazy’?” said FDP spokesperson Kevin Donohoe. “For too long, all three Republican candidates have dangerously mimicked Donald Trump’s divisive attacks on immigrant communities. Floridians want their next governor to be someone who will fight for all of us, not a Donald Trump impersonator.”
