ICYMI: Putnam Confirms He’s Still an NRA Sellout and Blames Mass Shootings on Video Games
Tallahassee, Fl. — In an interview with The Daytona Beach News-Journal today, Adam Putnam reaffirmed that he is still an NRA sellout — and appeared to blame gun violence on violent video games.
“Adam Putnam has officially confirmed it: he always has been, and always will be, an NRA sellout who is too afraid to take on the gun lobby and keep Floridians’ safe,” said FDP spokesperson Kevin Donohoe. “Just like Rick Scott, Adam Putnam is refusing to listen to Parkland students and back the #NeverAgain movement’s key demand: an assault weapons ban. Instead of showing real leadership, Putnam is trying to blame gun violence on video games and backing plans that will do nothing to prevent another mass shooting.”
In an article published this afternoon, The News-Journal reported that:
- STILL AN #NRASELLOUT: Putnam “isn’t disavowing a tweet he wrote last year describing himself as a ‘#NRASellout.’” Putnam has received at least $9,500 in NRA donations over the course of his career.
- BACKS SCOTT’S “WOEFULLY INADEQUATE” LEGISLATIVE PROPOSAL: Putnam endorsed Governor Rick Scott’s legislative proposal to address gun violence — which has been slammed by advocates as “woefully inadequate” and “too little, too late” to deal with the threat of gun violence.
- BLAMES VIDEO GAMES: Putnam also appeared to partially blame the Parkland shooting and gun violence on violent video games — a bizarre talking point that even the most pro-gun Florida Republicans have avoided since the mass shooting in Parkland.
- BREAKS WITH CORCORAN ON BROWARD COUNTY SHERIFF: In a clear sign of emerging rifts on the Republican side, Putnam declined to endorse Speaker Richard Corcoran’s call for Broward County Sheriff Steve Israel to resign. It’s also unclear whether Putnam backs Corcoran’s plan to arm students.
