House Speaker Jose Oliva Repeatedly Refers to Women as "Host Bodies"

During an interview tonight with CBS Miami’s Jim DeFede, House Speaker Jose Oliva repeatedly referred to women as “host bodies” while discussing a woman’s right to choose. The phrase — which Oliva used five times during the interview — came after DeFede questioned the House Speaker about abortion rights.

Watch the clip here:

“Speaker Jose Oliva’s words are hurtful, dehumanizing, and misogynistic. You’d expect to hear this offensive language in the Handmaid’s Tale — not from the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. With the start of the legislative session just days away, Speaker Oliva has insulted Florida women — and made clear he will not be their champion in Tallahassee,” said FDP Chair Terrie Rizzo.
